[edit: its a poem by roald dahl.. dont we all just love him?]
The most important thing we've learn
As far as children are concerned
Is never, never, never let
Them near your television set
Or better still, just don't install
The idiotic thing at all.
idiotic?? how dare he?? haha.. a bit melodramatic.. but come on.. the TV does have its functions... right?? i do think idiotic is a bit too harsh.. anyway.. moving on..
In almost every house we've been
We've watched them gaping at the screen
They loll and slop and lounge about
And stare until their eyes pop out
They sit and stare and stare and sit
Until they're hypnotized by it
"you are feeling very sleepy... give me your money... give me your money..." well.. that IS what advertising is in a nutshell.. i think i should retreat to my hideaway.. lest i get stoned to death by all advertisiers out there.. and to think i did an essay on corporate hacks in favour of the designer.. im such a hypocrite...
Oh yes, we know it keeps them still
They don't climb out the window sill
They never fight or kick or punch
They leave you free to cook the lunch
And wash the dishes in the sink
who needs super nanny when we have the good ol' telly??
But did you ever stop to think
To wonder just exactly what
This does to your beloved tot?
It rots the senses in the head!
It kills imagination dead!
It clogs and clutters up the mind!
It makes a child so dull and blind
His brain becomes as soft as cheese!
His power of thinking rust and freeze!
He cannot think-He only sees!
oh dear oh dear... is that what is to become of my brain? (or whatever's left of it after the whole bm saga) i'm gonna be a stuttering incomprehensible being even befor i reach 30!!
"Allright! you'll cry."All right!" you'll say
But if you take the set away
What shall we do to entertain
Our darling chidren! Please explain!"
We'll answer this by asking you
"What did the darlings used to do?
How did they keep themselves contented
Before this monster was invented?"
monster? it is NOT a monster.. or at least i refuse to believe so.. it has educational purposes too okay?? this is like one of those bm karangans where you have to write about the kebaikans of the tv.. hmm.. bm karangan.. *blog topic idea coming on*.. hmmm *rusty wheels in head due to excessive tv-watching start spinning* (they do work indeed!! but for how long??)
Have you forgotten? Don't you know?
We'll say it very loud and slow
They.....used.....to....read!
They read and read and read and read ,
And then proceed to read some more.
really? did they really? i thought they went disco-ing.. and butterfly catching... and masak-masaking.. no meh? or mebbe its just the msians.. since some survey did show that msians hardly read... its the culture!! its not my fault my books have been collecting dust!! (lazy people are so good at blaming others...) i think my mummy's eye's will go wide when she reads this "whaaat???"
so... the conclusion of the matter.. i am not giving up my telly! no matter what you say!! i'd resign to the fact that it may make me as idiotic as itself one day.. but i'd have that over the withdrawal symptoms any day!
DISCLAIMER:
sam does have a life and tv-watching isn't the only thing she does. and her dependence of it isn't that significant. REALLY.
