lessons from late night telly

I couldn't sleep last night, so I ended up watching the Rob Nelson show (its like oprah, but just in the night-time.. and much less frantic, crazy female audience) and they were talking about kids in the foster care system. and then came this woman, who had been through the system, and had worked her way up and became a beauty queen and foster child activist. towards the end of the show, she was asked to give some advice to the foster kids that were on the show.. and she said "each of us has a story..but it is up to us to write the ending." hmm.... inspirational isn't it.. and then I thought about it.. and then i was like, wait, that's not right..since God is the great story master of our lives, only He knows the ending of our earthly lives, but unbelievers obviously don't feel that way now do they?

this brings me back to bsf and the last ocf bs session a few weeks ago, where we talked about the way the world thinks, and how we are drawn into it, because its so subtle. see, the sin here isn't as glaring as sexual immorality, or profanity, or blaspheming, but what the statement implies is that we are the master of our destiny, which, in the Christian viewpoint, is replacing God isn't it?

so.. I was thinking about all the other cliched catchphrases disposed by people we see on TV and so on. sure, they are inspirational, but it is mostly about getting what you want, doing the best for yourself, ensuring that you succeed in life. where is God in the equation?

so the next time you are about to nod your head in agreement to a "nugget of wisdom" from someone.. think again...

to God be the glory! Amen! [they should have a "hands lifted up" smiley/icon]

oh.. yesterday i was reading esther's blog.. and she had an interesting analogy for relationships... you'll never look at kilometrico and pilot pens the same again..
